Nottingham has a fantastic underground music scene as well as some awesome gig venues that attract the biggest bands in the world.

Here at Singing Lessons Nottingham we are passionate about encouraging our singing students to attend as much live music as they can get their hands on! It is a fantastic way of learning first hand how to perform as the lead singer in a band, there is a lot more to singing live than just singing. Here is the low down of some of the best venues you check out locally & gig in if you are an up and coming local band.

Rock City Nottingham

Rock City Nottingham is steeped in music history. Opened in 1980, with the first act scheduled to be a certain Iron Maiden (alas the lights weren't fitted so the show was cancelled) but replaced a few days later once the place was in order by anoter band The Undertones who open the venue with Teenage Kicks! During the late 80s bands like Duran Duran and The Smiths came to rock audiences, before the likes of Guns 'n' Roses and The Pixes performed as the 90s drew in. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine and The Offspring drew massive crowds in the early 90s to Rock City performing wilded sets that sent the audiences crazy! Since the 2000 the likes of the Libertines, Queens of The Stone Age and The Streets have packed out crowds in the famous music venue located at 8 Talbot Street, Nottingham, NG1 5GG! A great night out all local bands should be aimming to support current touring bands to help build up a strong local following. It is also a great place to check out the bands that will dominate the world stage in the next few years - Rock City really is a right to passage for all bands. Top music venue!

Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall Nottingham

Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall Nottingham is another music venue that has seen some great performances over the years including Elton John's opening night gig after the Royal Concert Hall's construction in 1982. With nearly 3,000 seats the venue has continued to attract world famous musicians including Status Quo, The Overtones and Dweezil Zappa to perform infront of local audiences. The venue also plays host to raft of comedians so it is worth checking out what is on as well as getting yourself down to the Royal Concert Hall located in Theatre Square, NG1 5ND.

Motorpoint Arena Nottingham

Motorpoint Arena Nottingham has seen some fantastic gigs over the last few years with performances from the likes of Jack Johnson, Keane, Evanescene, Roxy Music, Slash, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds to name but a few of the bands that have rocked audiences! The 10,000 gig capacity is perfect for attracting some of the biggest bands in the business. It is well worth keeping you eye on who is playing here as no doubt one of your favourite bands will be in Nottingham soon! The dream place to support an internationally famous act, get practising and maybe one day you will be rocking audiences here too.

Rescue Rooms

Rescue Rooms has seen the likes of The Killers, Razorlight, Ellie Golding, We Are Scientists, Mumford and Sons and Bloc Party rock local audiences at 450 capacity music venue! A real underground scene the Rescue Rooms boast some of the best up and coming talent that you will see play in Nottingham. A must play venue if you are an up and coming band, Rescue Rooms, located at 25 Goldsmith Street, NG1 5LB is also perfect if you are a young solo singer looking to show off your talents! Great music venue!

The Bodega

Located at 23 Pelham St, Nottingham NG1 2ED, Bodega has been around for over 20 years providing great live music for everyone. Universally regarded by locals and students alike as one of the best places to hang out, party and listen to live music in Nottingham - the Bodega is a must visit venue that has been at the very forefront of the midlands music scene over the past two decades. With a multitude of awards under it's belt including Best Medium Bar at the Best Bar None awards 2011, the Bodega holds it's own as a great all rounder whilst having cemented itself a reputation for bringing world class stadium and festival-headlining talent to audiences before they made it big.
